Look above the steam train in the old Main Street photograph and you can see the tower of the Continental Hotel. The tower is still a useful way to find your bearings. At Front Beach, Hotel Koonya offers another point of comparison between the Sorrento of the postcards and the town today.
The photographs follow the shore to the pier, then turn inland to the shops and Whitehall. In the 1964 view of the fruit market, look up at the gable to recognise the building above the changing shopfront.
